Michael James Downey

Born in Rhode Island on March 11, 1953, he was the son of Frank Downey, of Arizona and M. Ann Gropp, of Florida.

Michael grew up in Morris County, NJ; before his love of the outdoors brought him to his Mountain side resort home in Saylorsburg. He selflessly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1976. He completed a nineteen month overseas tour, and was honorably discharged.

As a self-taught genius, he built his business, Michael J. Downey Plumbing and Heating, of Saylorsburg. He was very active in the building community, including a member of the Pennsylvania Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors and the Pocono Builders Association. He applied his trade to support his community wherever help was needed. Michael enjoyed being outside by his pond, his fish, and enjoyed camping.

He shared his life with his loving wife of 31 years Donna (Andreucci) Downey, of Saylorsburg; cherished his time with his family: Daughter: Kerri Ann and her husband Greg Harris, of Satellite Beach, FL; son: Billy and his wife Stephanie Downey of Fort Pierce, FL; his two grandchildren: Nathan and Abigail Downey, of Florida; sisters: Lynda, of North Carolina, Sandra, of Florida, and Carol, of Arizona; brothers: Greg, and Eric, of Arizona, and David, of New Jersey; step-mother: Joan Downey, of Arizona and all his extended family and friends that he considered family.

A Catholic Prayer service will be held on Wednesday February 26, 2014; at 10:30 a.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home Inc., 27 Washington St. East Stroudsburg with Monsignor John A. Bergamo, pastor of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, in East Stroudsburg officiating. Interment will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery, on Bryant Street, Stroudsburg.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, in East Stroudsburg. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday February 26, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial donations in memory of Michael J. Downey may be made to the VNA Hospice of Monroe county at 502 Independence Road East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
