
Army Colonel and former director of Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Robert E. Churchman, Sr. 79 of White Heron Lake, Marshalls Creek, passed away peacefully Monday morning October 22, 2012 at his residence in Marshalls Creek.
He was born on February 5, 1933 in Easton, PA; a son to the late Clair E. and Helen I. (McIntyre) Churchman founders of the Churchman Business School, in Easton, PA. Robert was a graduate of Easton High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he became a very well dedicated Special Forces officer. He served two tours of the Vietnam War. Robert was a currier military officer, earning several decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons ending his currier after over 31 years of service as a Colonel. Upon his retirement from the United States Army, Colonel Churchman settled in Hershey, PA; where he took on the position as Chief of Staff with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Harrisburg for over 17 years retiring as the director, a title of which he held for one year retiring from that position in 2002.
Following his retirement Colonel Churchman relocated to White Heron Lake in Marshalls Creek, PA where he enjoyed his retirement.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his first wife the former Gloria R. Rabanold, who he married on June 10, 1954 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage before her passing on June 13, 2009, two sons Robert Jr. and Wm. Scott Churchman and a daughter Sheridan Churchman LeBar.
Surviving are his current wife Judith Churchman, at home, sister Jane Churchman, of Manhattan, NY; son in law George “Andy” LeBar, of East Stroudsburg; step children Sarah Swain, at home, Samantha Swain, Saylorsburg; and Franklin Lentzall, Hawaii, nieces and nephews.
Grave side funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Easton Heights Cemetery, Easton, PA; Interment will follow in the Churchman family plot.
