

Betty moved from Maud with her family to Oklahoma City at the age of 4. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1960.
Betty attended Faith Lutheran Church in Capital Hill for over 65 years. She loved her church family and especially enjoyed working with children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School over the years.
Following high school graduation she moved to south Texas and met her husband to be. They married at Faith Lutheran Church in June of 1961. They lived in Hawaii where they started a family and then as the Air Force required lived in Nebraska, New Hampshire and finally settled in Oklahoma. In 1970 husband and wife returned to Midwest City, OK to raise their two children. In 1983 they moved to Edmond, OK where they spent their final years.
Betty loved volunteering and helping people. She worked for many years assisting Air Force families through the Family Services units at Pease AFB in New Hampshire and then Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. She worked tirelessly as part of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Posts in Midwest City and Edmond. She supported her children’s activities working as Troop and even District Cookie Manager for the girl’s scouts. She was well known as the popcorn lady at Rogers Middle School.
She worked in the hospitality industry being a housekeeper, office worker and hotel manager for Regal 8 Inn. She worked, retiring twice, for Oklahoma City Public Schools for over 20 years as an enrollment clerk.
She loved the Oklahoma Sooners and attending their football games with among others her son, sister and great grandson. She was overjoyed when she was able to follow the Sooners to the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2001.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Simmons; mother, Mozelle Wallace; father Clarence Wallace; Brother Lloyd Wallace; Sister Mary Jo Smith, Brother Donald Wallace and Grandson Mark GnIech.
She is survived by her daughter Beth Stewart and Morrie of Oklahoma City, Son Kevin Simmons and wife Francies of Choctaw, Grandson Patrick Simmons of Edmond, Granddaughters Shelby and Stephanie Simmons, Great Grandson Alexander Simmons and his sister Heavyn Pritchett. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty’s love of family and friends will be forever in the memory of those she touched.
A visitation for Betty will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, Edmond, OK. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 2512 S. Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, OK.
