Charles Dee Butler was born to Homer King Butler and Helen (Henney) Butler on October 3, 1942, in Kermit, Texas. Through the years, they, along with Chuck’s younger sister, Barbara, lived in various cities in Oklahoma. Chuck enjoyed his years as a Boy Scout, ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Chuck had horses most of his young life and he enjoyed riding often with friends at a time when kids had more freedom to do so!
Chuck spent 3 years at Ada High School, where he excelled at track. After graduating from Putnam City High School in 1962, Chuck attended the University of Oklahoma for 7 years due to changing majors midway through. He graduated with a BBA in 1968, earning his CPA license the following year. Upon graduation, Chuck fulfilled his ROTC obligation by serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the 33rd Signal Battalion of the U.S. Army at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. After an honorable discharge, Chuck went on to work as a CPA for several companies through the years, including Price Waterhouse and Hilti, before he later retired from Duit Construction in 2010.
Chuck met the love of his life, Pauletta Poindexter, on a blind date on February 22, 1964. They eloped on November 14th of that same year and were married for 62 years until the time of his passing. They had 2 daughters, Stacy Lynne, born in 1968, and Tracy Leigh, born in 1970, and raised them primarily in Tulsa. After the girls left for college, Chuck and Pauletta moved to Edmond in 1989 and spent the rest of their wonderful years there together.
Chuck loved running. He ran in multiple 5k’s and 10k’s throughout Oklahoma, where he was especially fond of the Woolaroc Run. He ran his first full marathon, the Dallas White Rock Marathon, in 1999. Chuck went on to run several marathons, including qualifying for and running the 2002 Boston Marathon. Chuck also enjoyed gardening and yard work and completed the intensive training to become a certified Master Gardener. Chuck was passionate about sailing. Chuck, Pauletta and the girls spent many years of summer weekends at Grand Lake. Chuck travelled extensively with his work, but he especially enjoyed travelling with Pauletta, including a favorite trip to Kenya.
Chuck loved JESUS. Chuck and Pauletta attended First Baptist Church of Edmond together for many years. Chuck was also a very enthusiastic member of Bible Study Fellowship for many years, eventually becoming a very dedicated Group Leader for other men attending BSF. Knowing that Chuck is with Jesus and is no longer living with a failing body and mind gives his family much joy and hope, knowing they will, indeed, see Chuck again.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Homer and Helen Butler.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauletta Butler; his 2 daughters, Stacy Crofford (Dan) and Tracy Watson (Jarrett); his 2 grandchildren, Sheridan Potts (Zack) and Justin Crofford; and his 3 great-grandchildren, William Potts (5), Daniel Potts (3) and Matthew Potts (1) as well as one great-grandchild on the way. Chuck is also survived by his sister, Barbara White, and a host of other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
