
Doris Marie George, 89, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on October 20, 2014. She was born on August 11, 1925 in Guthrie, OK to Donald W. and Ina M. George. Doris graduated from McAlester High School in 1942 and attended the University of Oklahoma from 1942 until 1946. During her last years at OU she and her fiancé owned and operated a Copper Kettle restaurant in Norman. After his tragic death she closed the business and she, along with several friends, owned and operated a boarding house in Norman. After closing the boarding house she worked for Emauel Synagogue in Oklahoma City. A few years later she began her career with RJ Edwards Bonding Company where she worked for many years, retiring as Treasurer of the company. Following her retirement she continued to work as a private bookkeeper for several clients in the oil industry and attorneys in Oklahoma City. Doris remained close to her parents, and, after her mother’s death in 1978, she was of great assistance to her father, often preparing and taking him meals. She and her father traveled extensively throughout the country visiting relatives in California, Washington State, Delaware, Texas and Georgia. After her father’s death she continued an active life, often visiting friends and relatives throughout the country until health issues curtailed her travels. She was also quite active in genealogical work concerning her ancestors. Doris was predeceased by her parents, sister Covell Hornberger, brother Jackie George and sister Wilma Betts. She is survived by two brothers, Lloyd George and wife Peggy of Taft, California and Dr. Dick George and wife Evelyn of Blanchard, Oklahoma and sister, Donna Barenkamp and husband Paul of Monument, Colorado and a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her dear friends Bob and Linda Felde and Dwight and Virginia Birdwell who were of great help to her for many years, often helping her with shopping and transportation to medical appointments. Funeral services will be held at Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
