He was born in Tipton, Oklahoma on November 9, 1934 to William Jennings and Viola Marshall. Garland graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and had a Bachelor of Arts in history. Garland was a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ all of his life, pastoring in OK, TX, GA, AL, and TN.
Throughout his service as minister, he taught high school history for 23 years. He directed several high school bands to victory of state championships.
Garland was blessed with so many skills and talents! Music was a beautiful outflowing of his enjoyment and love to God through singing and playing the cornet, trumpet, guitar, harmonica, and bagpipes.
Garland was a scholar of the Koine Greek, preparing critical explanations in many exegeses. His Greek studies in the scripture afforded him a deeper spiritual knowledge of God’s plan and purpose for man. He freely taught Greek for many years to give others the way to richly enjoy God’s word. His extensive library was a foundation upon which he depended to teach and preach God’s word.
Favorite hobbies of his were hunting, ham radio, photography, and building and flying model airplanes. Garland worked in electronics in his later years at Seagate Technologies.
He is preceded by his wife Barbara Adele White, three children; David Louis age 3, Daniel Ralph of Oklahoma City, and Brian Keith of Oklahoma City. He is survived by his daughter Virginia Madge Davis and husband Will Davis of Stillwater, daughter-in-law Patricia Jennings of Oklahoma City, nine grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
