

Gary Lynn Mitchell born on March 24, 1946 in Cherokee, OK to the parents of James and Francis Mitchell. He grew up in Cherokee and joined the Air Force where he finished his high school education. He served his country for eight years as an air traffic controller flying numerous combat missions in Vietnam earning many medals and awards. While in the military he married and had a daughter, Denise, in 1970. After retiring from the military he moved to Ajo, Arizona and drove a train in the Copper Mines. In 1973 he moved back to Cherokee and worked as a night dispatcher for the police department while obtaining his accounting degree from Northwestern State College in Alva, OK. Upon graduation he moved to Ponca City, OK and began working for Conoco. He divorced in 1980 and was transferred to Mississippi as project manager. Later he was transferred to Houston where he became a joint venture auditor. Again he was transferred back to Ponca City as an auditor where he met and married his wife, Tawna Corbin-Mitchell. They were married just short of 30 years. During this time Gary was moved to the Automotive Refinish Division of Du Pont and lived in several different cities across the US. In 2004 Gary retired from Du Pont and moved back to Oklahoma City.
He is survived by his wife, Tawna, his daughter Denise Corbett, four grandchildren, Kaylan Miles, Tristen Miles, Megan Noah and Zackary Corbett, three brothers: Jimmy, Billy and Jacky Mitchell; sister Judi Joy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Pat. He will be greatly missed by all.
