

Gerry, the second of five sons of George W. & Naomi (Crawford) Hedges was born in Lincoln Nebraska, and died at Legend at Council Road Assisted Living, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 96. He married Marian Kay Patterson in Salina, Kansas, on December 26, 1960, and they moved to Oklahoma City in 1961.
Gerry attended elementary school at Walton and Waverly in Lincoln, NE and graduated High School in 1946 in Central City, NE. He received his BA from Nebraska Wesleyan, a Masters in Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary NY, and a Masters in Education Guidance Counseling from Central State University, OK. He was active in OCREA and Mu Phi Epsilon.
Gerry served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War. His careers were as a minister of Music at Epiphany Lutheran in Bronx, NY; at First Methodist in Salina, KS; and at Crown Heights Methodist in OKC and as a public school teacher in Pawnee City and Murdock NE and in the Oklahoma Public Schools at Harding, Northeast and Capitol Hill schools.
Having dedicated his life to music professionally and through faith, Gerry sang with Canterbury Choral Society (1969-2014), was a tenor soloist at B’nai Israel Temple (1971-2006) and in the Bremen Town Musicians, a Quartet (1993-1997). Gerry & Kay were members of All Souls Episcopal Church since 1973 singing in the choir and were the first couple to receive the Rector’s Annual Award. Gerry was also active in St. George’s Guild.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Kay; two brothers John D Hedges, of Albuquerque, NM, and Wayne Hedges, of Pontiac IL; a sister-in-law Sharon Melko, of Cheyenne, WY; and a brother-in-law John Patterson, of Salina, KS. He is survived by two loving daughters, Dia Burroughs (Don), of Wichita, KS, and Marta Hedges, of Yukon, OK; brothers Dale Hedges, of Central City, NE, and Ned (Eola) Hedges, of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Edward Melko, of Cheyenne, WY, sister-in-law Clarice Hedges, of Albuquerque, NM; and seventeen dearly-loved nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial services for Gerry will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025, at All Souls Episcopal Church, 6400 N Pennsylvania followed by inurnment in the church columbarium and a reception.
