With profound sadness, we announce that Helen Louise (Roberts) Haney, born November 14, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was called Home to be with Our Lord and Savior on January 23, 2025. She passed peacefully in her home in Edmond, Oklahoma, after spending the day visiting with her husband and daughters.
Helen obtained her Bachelor’s with a double major in Early Childhood Education and English from Central State University, now known as the University of Central Oklahoma. She returned to complete her Master’s in Education in the 70s. She was an Early Childhood teacher who taught in Montana and Oklahoma with the majority of her teaching time spent at Putnam City Central Elementary in Bethany, Oklahoma. She touched so many lives and considered every one of her students as one of her own. She was an amazing teacher blessed with God-gifted talents to reach students in a very special way. She always found ways to reach children who needed extra support whether it was learning English as a second language, children who struggled with reading, or a child who just needed an amazing teacher that supported them in the way they needed. She made learning fun and has left a lasting impression on anyone who crossed her path whether you were her student, another teacher’s student, or a fellow teacher. She leaves an incredible legacy of kindness and love, impacting more lives than we will ever truly know.
Helen met Darrell in high school and they got married in 1954. They had three daughters soon after marriage and a set of twins born later in life, losing their only son at birth. Helen was a loving and caring wife and mother. She had a contagious laugh and a beautiful smile. She was a giver with a huge heart that only wanted those around her happy. Helen leaves behind her husband, Darrell Haney; daughter Cynthia and Mark Cundith; daughter Judee and Larry Peery; daughter Susan and Olivier Bouzerand; daughter Diana Peters; granddaughter Christina and Dory Cypert; grandson Jarred and Tepper Cundith; grandson Chad and Anna Peery; grandson Blake Wedel; grandson Matthew and Kayla Cundith; grandson Brooks and Jennifer Wedel; grandson Donald Blair III; grandson Kyle Blair; grandson Zane Peters; grandson Kaedan Peters; great-grandchildren Paige Cypert, Lane and Kylie Cypert, Alex Peery, Hunter Cundith, Aiden Cundith, Briar Cundith, Cohen Cundith, Nora Wedel, Harrison Wedel, Hudson Wedel, Andie Wedel, Jack Wedel, Lewis Wedel; and great-great-grandchildren Nash Cypert and Riley Cypert. She is preceded in death by her father Charles Roberts, mother Helen Roberts, and son Darrell Stephen Haney, twin of Diana.
I Never Left You by John F Connor
As I sit in Heaven and watch you every day
I try to let you know with signs I never went away
I hear you when you’re laughing
And watch you as you sleep
I even place my arms around you to calm you as you weep
I see you wish the days away
Begging to have me home
So I try to send you signs so you know you’re not alone
Don’t feel guilty that you have life that was denied to me
Heaven is truly beautiful just you wait and see!
Live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free
Then I know with every breath you take you’ll be taking one for me.
