J.W. Michael

He was a devoted husband and loved his wife, Shirley, and family.

He graduated from Ardmore High School and attended the University of Oklahoma and Southern Methodist University, Graduate School of Banking. J.W. had an illustrious career in the banking industry. He was a General Manager for Beneficial Finance System and a Senior Vice President for Fidelity Bank. He served as President and Chairman of the Board at University Bank in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Security State Bank in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was an organizer of Century Bank, N.A., and served as President and CEO. He was also a Senior Vice President of City Bank and Trust, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Bank of Oklahoma City, and Banc First of Oklahoma City.

His hobbies were family activities and watching O.U. Football and athletic events. He was a member of First Christian Church of Edmond, Oklahoma, where he served as an Elder, Trustee, and Chairperson of their Board. J.W. was a past president of the O.U. DAD’s Association, and the Sigma Chi Housing Cooperation. He served on the board and was treasurer of Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity and has served as treasurer, Vice President, President, and Board Member for the May Fair Club, served as Architecture Chairman for Oak Hallow Home Owners Association, and has been a member of Men’s Dinner Club and Kiwanis.

J.W. is preceded in death by his most precious wife, Shirley A. Michael; parents, William C. and Vera (Cude) Michael; brothers Billy and Bobby Michael; nephew Michael Helms; and niece Paula Michael.

J.W is survived by his two daughters, Ann Michael and Jana Amsler and son-in-law Robert Amsler ; grandchildren Arin Amsler husband Martijn Schirp and Austin Amsler and wife Stacie; great-grandson Bobby Amsler; sister, Margaret Helms and nephews Randy Helms, Derrick Michael and Richard Michael.

A graveside service for Joyce will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gracelawn Cemetery, 1407 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK 73034.
