Margaret Bessie Lane

Margaret was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Foye and Hazel Roberts, with her twin sister Marian, on December 7, 1946. As a child, Margaret enjoyed playing with her sisters, friends and cooking. She loved to tell her grandchildren about her high school basketball days and her love of choir.

After high school, Margaret married Bobby Lane of Oklahoma City on June 5, 1965. Bobby and Margaret lived in Stillwater, OK as Bobby finished college at Oklahoma State University. After graduation, they moved to Bartlesville, OK where they made some of their closest friends through Bobby’s work, Phillips 66 Gymnastics, Injuns Baseball and especially First Baptist Church of Bartlesville. Margaret left a legacy of faith with thousands of children by leading music in Children’s Church for over 20 years. After retirement, Bobby and Margaret moved to Edmond, OK where they were active and enjoyed many new friends at First Baptist Church of Edmond.

Margaret loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking and traveling. She loved to host large family gatherings, set a beautiful table and bake. Decorating Christmas Cookies with her grandkids was a favorite family tradition.

Margaret loved Jesus, and she loved sharing Jesus’s love with others especially with her gift of cooking. She spent countless hours cooking church meals and she cooked for students at Falls Creek church camp, one of her favorite places. She gave selflessly of her time tutoring kids learning to read with Whiz Kids in Oklahoma City, and generously supported Boys Ranch Town and Campus Crusade for Christ.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Lane and by her daughter Angela Lane.

Margaret is survived by three siblings Shirley and Tommy Staggs of Edmond, OK; Linda Wells of Harrah, OK and Marian Wallace of Newcastle, OK; two children: daughter Kerri and Jason Frederick of Coppell, TX, and son, Doug and Kara Lane of McKinney, TX; six grandsons and her beloved granddaughter.

Donations may be made in memory of Margaret to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

A memorial service for Margaret will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Edmond, 1300 E. 33rd Street, Edmond, OK 73013.
