Martha Nell Stuart Dodson

Martha Nell Stuart Dodson passed away peacefully in her home on August 16, 2015. She was born in 1928 to Paul and Irene Stuart in North Little Rock, AR, and attended schools in Alexandria and New Orleans, LA, McComb and Natchez, MS and Memphis, TN. She received a B.A. degree from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, AL.

She married Ellis A. Dodson in 1948. They were proud parents of Paul Dodson, Catherine “Cathy” Dodson, and Carol Dodson Solomon. Grandchildren include Amy Gibson (Ben), Lindsay Vidrine (Michael), Emily Wilkins (Levi), and Stuart Dodson. Great grandchildren include Grayson Vidrine, Kayla and Holten Gibson, and Nora Wilkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years and her sister, Bobbie Campbell Turney.

After teaching at Powderly (AL) High School, she went on to earn a M.A. degree from Oklahoma City University and an Administrators Certificate in Education at Central State University, Edmond, OK. She was a science teacher at Hoover Middle School in OKC, Curriculum Consultant for OKC Schools, and Principal at Jefferson and Eisenhower Middle Schools in OKC. During her years in education, Martha Nell served as President, Oklahoma Science Teachers' Association; Chairman, National Science Teachers' Association Regional Convention; Board of Directors and Executive Committees NSTA; and Chairman, International Science and Engineering Fair Advisory Committee.

Martha Nell was a member of Village Christian Church in The Village, OK. After retirement, Martha Nell and Ellis moved to Port Isabel, Texas, where she lived until recently.

The family would like to thank The Inn at Bradford Village for their daily expressions of kindness and love and Humanity Hospice for the comfort and compassion they shared with us during this time.

A graveside service and interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in OKC on Thursday, August 20, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Dr., OKC, OK 73120.
