Mary Ellen Williams

Mary Ellen Williams, 78 of Edmond, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home on Friday, February 18, 2011. Mary Ellen was born to Mamie and Homer Lucas on May 4, 1932, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Throughout her childhood she lived in Verden, south of Holdenville, Fairview, and McAlester, Oklahoma along with many of her nine brothers and sisters. She moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, in 1951 where she met and married the love of her life David Frank Williams. She and David had two children, Karen Gail and David Russell. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Williams of Edmond, daughter Karen Winham and husband John of Yukon, son David Williams and wife Lorna of Edmond, and three grandchildren, Teranne Williams of Oklahoma City, Kyle Williams and Mackenzie Williams both of Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by sister Geneva Robinson of Broken Arrow, sister Johnnie Mae Everett of Edmond, brother Jim Lucas and wife Joy of Oklahoma City, sister Virginia Avey and husband Richard of Oklahoma City, brother Bill Lucas and wife Sondra of Luther, brother Bob Lucas of Bethany, sister Sharon Crane of Oklahoma City, sister Starr Shrader of Edmond, sister-in-law Della Mae Kraft of Worland, Wyoming, and sister-in-law Ruby Kiser of Jet, Oklahoma, as well as, a host of nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Mamie and Homer Lucas of Holdenville, and sister Bernice Dunn of Broken Arrow. Mary Ellen worked as a telephone operator, cared for several children in her home, was employed as a meat wrapper for Wynn’s IGA, and she worked in the cafeteria at Ida Freeman Elementary School before retiring in 1997. A member of Edmond’s First Baptist Church, Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with family, spoiling her grandchildren and cooking for family gatherings. Visitation will be at Baggerly’s Funeral Home in Edmond on Tuesday, February 22, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Edmond’s First Baptist Church.
