

Carolyn Hayes died on March 19, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in their Hospice Care unit. She was born on May 24, 1934, the fourth child of what would become a family of seven children. Her parents were Smith Wayne Hayes and Annie Laurie (Fallin) Hayes.
She was educated in the Oklahoma City Public Schools, attending Lincoln Grade School, Webster Junior High and Central High School, class of 1952. Her education continued at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned a degree in 1956 in Geology, becoming one of the first early women Geologists.
Her first employment was with Shell Oil Company in Oklahoma City. Later, Shell moved their employees to Denver, Colorado and for the rest of her professional years, she lived in Colorado. Carolyn was an active person, playing golf and tennis. She always had a project, whether needle point, rug hooking or learning to weld. She brought a kit home and built a cabin on the Blue River, near Breckenridge, CO, doing much of the work herself. Carolyn had some assistance by her nephews, Russell and Randall Cole.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Rosemary Cliff. She is survived by her five siblings: Newcomb Hayes, Helen Hayes Bondurant, James W. Hayes, Bert Hayes and Robert Hayes, and a long term friend, Doris Long. The family would like to thank Cathy Carter and Lily Keronget for their kindness, knowledge and attention to Carolyn.
Carolyn has chosen to be cremated and her remains will be interred in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, OK, near her mother’s grave. There will be no service.
