Nancy, a 19 year colon cancer survivor, passed away from recent liver issues originating from her previous chemotherapy. She remained ever positive despite her struggles and passed away peacefully in the presence of her family.
Nancy was born in Grayson County Texas, graduated as valedictorian from Collinsville H.S., obtained a B.S. in Medical Technology from University of North Texas, and a M.S. in Microbiology from the University of Oklahoma. She worked in the University Hospital laboratory for over 30 years. Her quest for knowledge never ended. Her subscriptions to The New England Journal of Medicine and Microbiology Today are still current. She said that it was a privilege to have received an education and that it was her duty to share that knowledge with others. Her friends and relatives often referred to her as ‘Nurse Nancy”.
After retiring in 1997, she began pursuing her new passion for golf. This was no surprise as she was into physical fitness her entire life. She was a member of the 1956 Collinsville H.S. 1B state championship basketball team and after moving to Edmond could be seen at the YMCA or walking at a local park. Upon retirement, she could be found on a golf course at least three days a week.
Nancy was known for her generous nature. From a good knife, so you wouldn’t cut yourself again, to a sunflower golf ball marker to commemorate a girls golf trip, she had a knack seeing what you needed, giving it to you, and making you feel special.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, H.P. and Eula Boren, sister, Shirley McCorkle all of Collinsville, TX and her son, Keith Parker of Edmond, OK. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Don Parker of Edmond, OK; her daughter, Kelley Kartye, her son-in-law, Craig Kartye and her grandsons, Reed and Jared Kartye, all of Liverpool, TX; and her brothers H.P. Boren of Denison, TX and Doug Boren of Laneville, TX.
She will be best remembered for her perceptive and sensitive nature, entertaining wit, sense of humor, and ready medical advice.
Friends and family are invited to participate in a Celebration of Life on April 2, 2016 @ 2:00 p.m. at Baggerley Chapel, 930 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
