
Rebecca Mae [Wilkins] Sharp, 97, of Grace Living Center, Edmond, Oklahoma passed away 19 Dec 2012. The youngest child of Rev. O.C. Wilkins and Mae Wilkins was born 16 Feb 1915 in Wagoner City, Oklahoma. Rebecca spent most of her younger years in various towns in Oklahoma as her father was a traveling evangelist.
In July 1934 Rebecca married Charles Edward Sharp in Harrison, Arkansas. They were married 63 years at the time of his death in 1998. Their daughter, Barbara Sue Sharp, came into the family in 1938. The family continued to live in the Oklahoma City area until 1944, when they moved to a chicken ranch in Salem, Arkansas.
About 1946 they moved to Southern California, where Rebecca’s mother lived with them until her death. A move to Flint, Michigan, came in the early 1950’s, where Rebecca worked for JC Penney’s. By the mid to late 1950’s, the family returned to Southern California where Rebecca continued to work for JC Penney’s, and eventually was a buyer for Bullock’s Department Store in Lakewood. Rebecca and Edward lived in Westminster, where Barbara and her husband, Roy Oakley, lived across the street. Rebecca’s two granddaughters, Becky and Donna, were born in the early 1960’s. Rebecca and Edward moved to Cherry Valley in the 1970`s and stayed there for four or five years. After this the family moved back to Oklahoma, settling in the Edmond area. Rebecca resided the rest of her life in Oklahoma.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Sharp [1998]. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, O.C. Wilkins Jr.[1944, WWII], William Haskell Wilkins [1965], Emerson Earl Wilkins [1989], her sister, Pauline Naomi [Wilkins, Milburn, Buerger] Britz [1949], and her half brother, Thomas Hilbert Wilkins [1978].
During her childhood, Rebecca was said to have been sickly. She out lived all her siblings by at least 19 years.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Barbara Sue Oakley. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Becky Oakley, and Donna Marie Price [Rickey], and her great-granddaughter, Santana Hicks [Steve]. She is survived by one great-great grandson, Christopher Edward Hicks. All of the surviving family members are from the Oklahoma City area. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews living in various states.
Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park in the Abbey Mausoleum Chapel, Oklahoma City, 07 Jan 2013 at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Wilkins Family Plot.
