She was born in Oklahoma City on March 10, 1965. Hers was a simple but quality life; she focused on raising her two sons with the goal of giving them every possible opportunity for happiness and success. Her dreams were fulfilled in the past several years, seeing them achieve highly honored degrees, begin fulfilling careers, and find love and marriage with wonderful women.
Susan was a caring and conscientious person, very methodical in her approach to all things, only willing to devote her energies to worthwhile endeavors. She had a valuable career in support of the State of Oklahoma for 25 years. During that time, Susan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma. She worked her way through the ranks to the position of Administrative Director at the time of her early retirement in 2020.
Susan was closely tied to family members and friends whom she treated as family. She chose her friends carefully, locked their secrets in her heart, and was always there for them. She loved to travel and was a talented homemaker, cook, and gardener. If you knew Susan, you have known a woman of fine character. One who endured through illness and great loss with an unwavering faith in Jesus.
Susan’s life ended too soon, and she embraced the end of her journey with courage and an increasing gratitude for her family, her friends, and the gift of her blessed life. She wanted to be remembered as she was before her illness because that is who she was to the end.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Hufnagel, and brother, Sidney Burk.
Her spirit lives on in her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Perry and wife Candace Johnston of Tulsa and Brad Perry and wife Danae Hall of Oakland, California; father James Hufnagel of El Reno; brother Charles Hufnagel of Watford City, North Dakota; and many other family members and friends.
