

Services will be 11am, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Village Baptist Church, 10600 N. May Ave; the Village, OK 73120; 751-1951. Visitation will be at Baggerley, Monday, 9am to 8pm.
Mrs. Shannon was born in Broken Bow, OK, on April 5, 1934, to James Leslie Cooke (with an “e”) and Thelma Mae (Hamilton) Cooke; the second of four children.
Though she loved school she was ill and missed a lot of class time, eventually contracting Rheumatic Fever which damaged her heart—resulting in two open heart surgeries in later years.
Venita met Ernest Shannon at a drug store soda fountain and they were married a few months later. They were married 40 years, til Ernest’s death at the age of 63.
Mrs. Shannon loved to cook big Sunday after church dinners that included roast, homemade bread, and cinnamon rolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a baby boy.
She is survived by her children: Shirley & husband Carl Mears, Shelma & husband D. Rusty White, Shawn & wife Cathey Shannon; 6 grand-children: Shannon Mears Gardner, Matthew Mears, Eric White, Twyla White Taylor, Shaena Shannon, and Shane Shannon; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virgina M. Bittner and Velesta & husband Dailey Brown; brother, James L. & wife Debbie Cooke; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
