

Vera is survived by her children, Billy Ray Brazil and Sharon DeVeau of Edmond, OK; brother, J.W. Stephenson of McAlister, OK; grandson, Billy Don & wife Sandy Ochoa Brazil; granddaughter, Melissa & husband Marcos Sandoval; granddaughter, Savannah DeVeau; grandson, Christopher Brazil; and great-grandchildren: Sophia, Isabel, Victoria, and Gavin Brazil and Brock and Roman Sandoval. Vera was preceded in death by Billy Joe Brazil of Edmond, OK, Buddy Stephenson of Kansas City, KS, John Henry Stephenson of Shawnee, OK, and June Dixon of Kissamee, FL.
Vera was born on September 13, 1926 in Coalgate, OK to Roy & Edith Stephenson. She graduated from Haleyville High School and attended Eastern State University in Wilburton, OK. She married Billy Joe Brazil on June 16, 1949 in Springdale, AR. The couple lived in Tulsa, OK where Bill worked for Douglass Aircraft. Their first child, Sharon DeVeau was born in Fort Riley, Kansas. And their son Billy Ray Brazil was born in Tulsa, OK. They later transferred to Martin-Marieta in Littleton, CO. After moving back to Oklahoma, together Vera and her husband Bill owned and operated the Kettle Restaurants in Oklahoma City, Edmond, and Ponca City for over 23 years.
Her children remember her as a very hard worker, strong willed, loving, fun, full of life, loved clothes, shoes, and lots of color!
Vera was accomplished in running several Kettle Restaurant locations. She was always generous with her family. She was an active and dedicated to her Cherokee heritage. She often attended The Red Earth Festival, admired American Indian art, jewelry, and enjoyed taking her grandchildren to Native American Festivals.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11am at Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond, OK, with graveside services to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vera’s life.
