Ginny will be greatly missed.  She was just one of thos kind of people that enjoyed life…very loving, very caring.  Also I found out the secret of her young looks, but I  don’t think I’ll share that one with you.  ?  I will really miss her dearly.

Ginny was the first lady to greet us at Touchmark.  She always spoke with a big smile and teased us because we ordered hamburgers quite often.  We miss Ginny.  I always told her my Grandmother was named Ginny.

Ginny was one of the first people we met when we moved to Touchmark in March of 2007.  She was so pretty and had that wonderful smile.  I think she greeted everyone at every table when she came to the dining room.  When Bennie Peters moved away, Ginny asked me to be her assistant “Friendship Ambassador”. When I was in labor I had been in labor for quite some time and I had asked gram if She would like to be in the room When my daughter was born since she had given birth to 3 sons but never witnessed a birth. She of course said yes and stayed at the hospital the whole time. 11 o'clock came rolling around and my dad asked gram if she would like to go home and sleep since she was 88 years old. Her response was there is no way I am leaving and missing this. She was extremely determined and bought a Snickers bar and a coke. Now Gram NEVER eats suger or drinks caffeine. She was wired and ready to go. Right before the time came for me to give birth Shelley and Halee and gram were laying on the couch in the suite and Jeff asked gram what she was doing. Her response was "I'm just chilling" and threw up the peace sign. We have a picture of her doing just that. I love you grandma. Go "chill" with grandpa for me!!!

Hey sorry it took so long to tell you how much I miss grandma.  I love her. The day after mom told me she died I couldn't work.  It hurt so much that I didn’t get to see her.  It’s really hard to talk about.  I start crying every time I do.

As a kid…every time we would make a trip to the Villages, I would look forward to the golf cart outings.  Even the last time we went in 2006…my brother and I took it out for a spin and used it when we played the golf course the first and only time to play there.
 
Every Christmas….Gram would be so generous in her giving that we has grandkids would get an allotment of money for gifts.  Whether we were young or grown adults as we are today…Gram was always interested in what we would get.  She would sit there on Christmas morning(at her years of visits)…watching us open presents and be smiling at the reaction we would have to her love of giving.  We would always make the comment of “Dang Gram you have been busy shopping”…but as we all know Mom or Dad(or us kids) did the shopping.  She was just that type of lady.  She cared for her family so so much and loved them more than life itself.
 
Gram we love you so much…miss you every minute of everyday.  Look down upon us and protect us daily.  I will see you again its Gods place.

When Ken and I were just newly engaged, I found myself alone with your Mom in the house in Saratoga.  I needed something from her and suddenly didn't know what to call her--given my new status in the family.  I really thought about it for several minutes.  Do I call her Virginia or Ginny or Mrs. Morefield or what I REALLY wanted to call her and that was "Mom"? I finally decided that the safest thing to do is to address her as Mrs. Morefield.  When I finished my question to her, she looked at me and asked me not to call her Mrs. Morefield because that made her feel old.  She suggested that I call her Ginny or, to my delight--"Mom".  From that day on, my mother-in-law had no other name to me but "Mom".

I always looked forward to the visits to California, especially as I got a little older and was able to visit by myself.  I loved to be spoiled by her! She clearly loved being a grandma, and I think it really fun for her to have grand daughters, since she had had sons. I think she was the first person to do my nails. And I remember when I got my ear's pierced as a kid, she decided if I could do it, she could too!
I loved going on the boat.
An especially fun memory was when we went to the crazy Winchester mystery house...I just shared that memory with her a few months ago and we laughed and talked about what a good time we had. 

On a less trivial note.
I visited Grandma a few times when things in my life weren't going so well, once in high school, when I was going through a depression and dad and mom thought I could use a break from home, and once right after college. Both times, her love and attention made a real difference to me during hard times. 

I only saw Grandma 3 times the past seven years. The amazing thing is that  when I would talk to her on the phone, she was always completely up to date and current in her knowledge of my life. I was especially amazed by this because I moved three times and changed jobs twice during this time. She never met Jim, but always asked about him...it amazed me how much she knew about him.  Both Jim and I were really touched by this.

I have so many...as some were very meaningful and some were just funny. I think the biggest memory is probably the collective last five years we got to spend with her! Even though as a kid I had some of her cooking many meals in the kitchen, or being the "parent" while I had chicken pocks in Germany (I was all of 5th grade and I had a hot date to the movies and she wouldn't let me go) :-), to giving us an incredible amount of bread to feed the ducks in their back yard. 

I really became close to her when she moved here. From Kevin and I driving her car from San Jose to OK (while stopping at Grandpa's gravesite and then Las Vegas for a couple days), to her passing it was an absolute joy to have her around!! When I was single, the biggest thing I loved doing with her was our "lunch dates". We would talk about everything and she was always worried about me finding someone who had three stipulations. 1)The girl I was going to marry, had to have come from a good family (mom and dad still married...preferred), 2)that she was a practicing Christian and 3) that she had good relationships with her siblings. Hmmmm, kinda sounds like the Morefields!! She was so certain that I could find someone and tried to help in any way possible. She told me after Emily and I were engaged that she was happy for us and I told her, that she helped me find Emily! She was also very instrumental in my decision to enter into the military!! With her stories of the past with Grandpa, she certainly was behind me carrying the torch within the Morefied family. The biggest feeling I got from Gram is that she supported and was there to help in any way possible!! Just spending time with her was the greatest gift. I wish all women were like her!! She was definitely a model for what God wanted in a lady!!!

One of the many things I loved about grandma is the way she was always so curious about everything I ever did.  Granted, there were plenty of times when this just seemed unnecessarily nosy (e.g. those moment when she demanded to know about my love life as if this were obviously information to which all grandmothers in America were entitled by law.)  But most of the time, I knew her interest to be genuinely sweet and generous, an honest expression of her love for me.  I remember in particular how much this meant as a young teenager when I felt (as does everyone, except Anna, at 13-14 years of age) invisible in the world.  Grandma always SAW me, even when I didn’t see myself, and always thought I was beautiful and talented even when I didn’t believe these things for a moment.  Even when she was telling me to style my hair or (for the love of god) buy some jeans without holes, she thought I was precious.  And I felt the same about her.

I loved Grandma’s smile and the twinkle she got in her eye when she was plotting something.  I loved the way she snuggled with my kids the same way she snuggled with me.  I loved that she sang dopey songs from the 1940’s with me.  I loved the way her house always smelled like cleanness.  I loved the way she could live in proximity to some of the best wine country in the world and still insist on ice cubes in her chardonnay.  I loved her no-nonsense attitude toward the world.  I loved her sense of fairness even when no one else noticed the discrepancy (this is part of what made it so fair.)  I loved her red pants and the fact that she always called them “slacks” even though it drove me insane.

I loved the way Grandma LOVED LOVED LOVED my husband and thought him so absolutely handsome.  I loved the way she rolled with our unconventional wedding.  I loved the way she never judged my choices.  I loved the way she treated Niko with the exact same standards of grandmotherly love and kindness that she treated Anna.

I love the legacy that Grandma has left in the world;

• The sons of which she was so proud, who have rallied together with such fierce love and support for each other and their families.

• The daughters in law whose patience I think she actually recognized even when she was in the midst of trying it the most.

• The grandchildren who all make their way in the world in some way effected by her solid, no nonsense, “tell me what is going on with your love life,” I LOVE YOU, I MISS YOU, I TREASURE YOU attitude toward life.

• The great-grandchildren who have already and will amaze us all with the sureness of life they inherited from her.

I already miss the foundation in my life that Grandma was.  I know that at 43 years old I am luckier than most to have had that foundation for so long.  And at the same time, I am completely at a loss to imagine the world without her.

I was so sorry to hear that Great Grandma died. It feels really weird having other people who I'm really close to be sad about someone who I never really got the chance to know. I don't have that many memories of her; I remember when Mommy and I came to her place in California, and we sang this song together, (let's go cuddle in a corner), which to this day I have no idea what the actual melody is, and I remember that being very special to me, to have something we both could share. Then, afterwards, when she called on the phone, we'd sing that song.

If I was to pick a favorite memory with Gram it would have to be the times we would go over to her house and pick oranges. Being out there with everyone, Gram included, was something that I looked forward to when we went over to Gram's place.  I remember those things would just be massive.  Bag after bag, that tree produced enough oranges for what seemed like months.  Granted, I was 11 or 12 at the time, so they seemed and felt a lot heavier than they probably were.  I think one time Mom and Gram made orange juice out of them, which too was an experience, not like that store-bought kind.  
 My second favorite memory would be of the time of the year, and this must have been only a few weeks out of the year, that Nick and I would be able to go out and catch the baby frogs.  They were to tiny and easily caught that we could catch about 12 before our hands could get filled.  I remember going inside with a fist-full of frogs, something that Gram probably only pretended to be amazed at, and more likely wanted them out of the house immediately.
 Though only a few weeks out of the year did we end up visiting Gram on days that had oranges or frogs, every time I checked for them.  It was both fascinating, and kept us from being glued to a TV. It times like these that hopefully I will always remember, and be able to share with my kids.

My best memory with grandma is when she lived back in The Villages. I remember when we came over on Sundays and grandma and I would "snuggle" as she called it. I will never forget that.

I would have to say that one of my favorite memories of Gram would have to be the times that I would go over to Touchmark and spend some quality time with her.  We would spend time together talking about what's going on in my life and she would give me the best advise a grandmother can give.  We would talk about her childhood and her days as a military wife.  I loved hearing her talk about her life and how she became the women that she was.  I always left her place knowing just a little bit more about Gram but before I would leave she would slip me a $20 and say "just don't tell your parents, it's our little secret." 
 
One of the things about my grandmother I will always remember is how much she loved each and everyone of us.  She would never hang up the phone or when we would leave her place, she would ALWAYS say "I love you."  She had such a big heart and the gift of giving and every time it was fully appreciated. 
 
Oh and one more memory that makes me smile is recently in the last few months of her life she learned how to give "knuckles" after giving someone a high five.  When I saw her do that to me, I could not stop laughing.  She always knew how to put a smile on someone’s face when times were tough.

What I remember most about Mom is her storytelling. She often told stories about growing up in California, stories about her mom and dad, stories about meeting and falling in love with her husband, Bill Morefield. My favorite story is this one:

One day the subject of Japanese American Internment Camps came up. This reminded Mom of a story. Her mother, “Grandma Jo”, always shopped at a small grocery store in Pasadena, California owned by a Japanese American couple. One day, during the Second World War, they came to her door bearing gifts – a pressed glass bowl and pitcher. “We are being sent to an internment camp and have to get rid of all of our possessions,” they told Grandma Jo. “We want you to have these.” Grandma Jo told them that she would hold the bowl and pitcher for them until they returned. She never saw them again and eventually she gave the bowl to Mom and the pitcher to Mom’s sister Doris.

I loved the story - the friendship expressed by the owners of the small grocery store in a time of great sorrow, and the kindness expressed by Grandma Jo. I told Mom that I wished I could have seen the bowl; it was a symbol of compassion and hope in sorrowful times. Well Mom was a keeper and she said, “Oh, I’m sure I have it around somewhere.” Sure enough, she found it and sent it up to me. I love that Mom kept those stories alive and that she saved the bowl for over fifty years and that she passed it on to me so that I can keep the story alive.

I appreciate her appreciation for things that reminded her of the people she loved. She saved and lovingly cared for them, then generously passed them on to her family and friends.


I appreciate grandma's keen interest in knowing what everyone was up to. She loved to get letters and hear updates. And until writing became difficult, she enjoyed writing back as well. I never realized how many times I wrote a letter (a physical letter) to her until I got a box a few years back full of letters that I had written to her over the years, she saved every single one....dozens of them. I had a very fun afternoon reading back thru all that I had written her over the years.

I will miss her hugs. Grandma was a big time hugger. She would give a powerful squeeze that was always accompanied by an "I love you". She loved to look you in the eyes and tell you how much she loved you. I've always appreciated that.

There are no words that truely descripe how much you have meant to this family.  I am just so grateful that the last words we exchanged were "I love you mom" and  "I love you too son very much".  I thank you so much for what you gave to me, my family and my brothers and their families.  You were a truly giving person whose love was contagious.  Now you and Dad are back together. I love you Mom.  Ken

Dear Morefield Family.  I can not tell you how much of an impact Ginny made on my life during my early years.  Some of my most fond memories of Ginny stem back to my childhood times whilst spending long weekends on the delta with Ginny and Bill on their boat. Dear Ken and Eileen, Thank you so much for sending this. The pictures were wonderful, and reminded us of so many beautiful moments in the life of our beloved Ginny.  She will be greatly missed by the many, many lives she touched. But we shall always have our wonderful memories of her, and she will always be remembered daily in our thoughts and most especially in our prayers.  She was God's gift to all with whom she came in contact, and now God has taken her home.  We love you Ginny and always will.

Words can not explain who my grandmother was.  She was a beautiful women inside and out.  Her love was contagious and when she was around she was able to get peoples attention without even trying.  When my Gram moved here in 06 I had the opportunity to spend time with her and deepen our relationship.  She was always so happy to see me or hear from me when I called.  She used to always call me "Honey"  When I would go see her we would spend quaility time together talking about anything and everything.  We had such a wonderful relationship that I felt like I could tell her anything and she would still love me.  Her hugs were also priceless becuase they were given with so much love.  I miss you so much Gram and I know we will have many more conversations together.  I also know I will feel your hugs again in my dreams and when we return home.  Gram,  I know you will watch over us and I also know your love will live on forever through each one of us.  I love you so much and I will see you again!

Words can not explain my grandmother.  When she moved here over 5 years ago I had the opportunity to spend time with her and create many more memories that I will never forget.  She was always so excited to hear from me and see me.  We would spend quality time just talking about anything and everything.  I felt so comfortable with her that I could tell her anything.  Her hugs were so full of love and her love for her family was inspiring.  I miss you Gram so much and I will miss our conversations.  I know we will have forever to have many more conversations and I know I will feel those amazing hugs in my dreams.  Gram, please look down over your family and continue to show us your love through each other.
