It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Alexander Francisco Balajadia, who left us on September 7, 2024 at the age of 74. Born on December 3, 1949 in Manila, Philippines. His father was a retired army general from Tondo, Manila, and his mother hailed from the province of Leyte, Philippines. He was the eldest of four siblings.
He graduated from Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati, Philippines, before pursuing post-secondary studies at La Salle University and Don Bosco College, ultimately becoming a licensed Marine Engineer. After establishing his career, which included a role with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Alex sought new opportunities and experiences.
In 1978, he made the bold decision to emigrate to Canada. He married the love of his life, Lorna, whom he met during college in 1971, and together they started a family. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with love, laughter, and adventure. In Canada, Alex found his calling as a skilled machinist, where his precision and craftsmanship earned him the respect of his peers. He took immense pride in his work, always striving for excellence and generously sharing his vast knowledge and expertise to help others succeed.
Lovingly called "Dada" by his sons, Alex was known for his infectious laugh and incredible sense of humor. He never took life too seriously and was always the life of the party. Whether singing his favorite songs on karaoke or cracking jokes, he brought joy to everyone around him. His love for road trips, camping, good food, and spending quality time with his family created countless cherished memories.
An avid motorbike enthusiast, Alex loved riding more than anything else, especially with fellow members of the Latin American Motorcycle Association (LAMA Edmonton), which became his second family.
His resilience during his battle with leukemia was a testament to his strength and bravery. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit, humor, and zest for life will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Lorna, children Joe (Joy) and AJ, grandsons Josiah and Kingsley, brother Benedicto Jr. and sister Christine, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will remain with us forever.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Benedicto and Fidelina, and sister Deannette.
Rest in Peace, Alex. You will always be remembered.
