June 13, 1955 – June 15, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Alexander Anthony Ignacz of Edmonton announce his passing on June 15, 2024, at the age of 69 years old after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Hungary, and with his parents immigrated to Montreal during the Hungarian Revolution at the tender age of two. He grew up as a classic child of the 60’s playing in rock bands and spending summers in the country. He eventually relocated to Edmonton, in 1979, when he was hired by Canadian Utilities.
Alex spent his entire career, 40 years, with Canadian Utilities/ATCO as a technical consultant, applying his natural talents as a Computer Programmer and Systems Analyst. His greatest contribution being the contrivance, development, and implementation of the TivTalk program.
Alex’s passions included photography, frequently going on long drives with his wife Donna and stopping often to take pictures. He was the family photographer at every party he attended. He was a musician – playing in a band as a guitarist as a young adult – and a self-taught pianist. He took up fencing as an adult, he loved to dance and more recently was an avid golfer and pickleball player, in addition he spent many hours tending to his lush green lawn or creating his next woodworking project in his garage.
Alex was a loyal, dedicated, loving husband, a fun-loving father, and grandfather. His sense of humor will be missed by all as he was always the life of the party. His kindness touched the hearts of all those who knew him.
Alex is lovingly remembered by his wife Donna; his daughters Nadia (Bob) Taylor, Lauren (Tim) Pearson, and Justine (Blake) McDonald; his step-daughters Vanessa (Carter) Buan and Ashley Walker; his grandchildren Ethan, Jacob, Katie, Cash, Mackenzie, Madeline, and Austin; his brothers George (Sandra), and Eddie; his brothers in law, James (Trish), and John (Diane); his mother in law, Camille (Jim) and his nieces Meagan and Samantha; as well as friends and family throughout the world.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Friday June 28, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Holy Family Parish, 75 Poirier Avenue, St. Albert,AB with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
