With deep love and sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Allen McCulloch surrounded by his loving family short days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
Allen grew up on a farm just outside Rimbey, Alberta. In school, his favourite subjects were physical education and shop.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; three sons, Brian (Karen), Kevan (Terena), and Douglas (Jackie); grandchildren, Mitch, Brandon, Megan, Zack, Arlene, and Scott; two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Ethan; one sister, Alice Whitesell, and one brother, Ken McCulloch. Allen is predeceased by his parents Robert and Elsie (nee Muir) McCulloch and one brother and four sisters.
As a little boy, Allen wanted to be a carpenter. His wish was answered as he attended a "Tech" school in Calgary and graduated in Building Construction. While there, he took a job with Bird Construction for many years. Then he spent years with EllisDon Construction.
Allen married his high school sweetheart Evelyn and they spent 68 happy years together. As a family, they went camping, fishing, and exploring some wooded areas.
Allen was happiest with family around him. He was always ready to give a helping hand. He did enjoy babysitting the grandchildren. Allen loved "dancing"; growing up in a house with music and four older sisters, he had good teachers!
Allen was a loving, caring person - always ready for a hug and always ready with a joke. He spent many years volunteering, many years coaching hockey and soccer in the community league and volunteering at Calder Seniors, dancing alongside the music of "The Jammers". At Shepherd's Care, he helped grow beautiful roses and became known as "The Rose Man".
Thanks to Dr. Chandrasenan and the staff at Edmonton General Hospital Continuing Care Hospice - 9th floor. The care they gave Allen and family was outstanding. And special thanks to Pastor Gerry. So much love.
A funeral service will be held on April 17, 2026 at Shepherd's Care Kensington Chapel, 12603 135 Avenue NW at 1:30 PM. A Celebration of Allen's life will be held at 2:30 PM in the main floor auditorium. Bring your pictures and stories.
In lieu of flowers, give a donation to one of your choice.
Allen's favourite saying later in life was "I've had a good life".
