She leaves behind her son Aristides Steve Makris (Vicky), grandsons John and Chris (Chelsea) and brother George Dimakouleas (family) in Greece. Many loving family and friends in Canada, the US and her homeland Greece will miss the “miracle seamstress” for her talents and loving kindness.
Antigone started her life with parents Sotirios and Eleni Dimakouleas and brothers George and Michalis (deceased) in Doloi and Kalamata in southern Greece. She left home as a young adult in 1947 to meet and marry John Makris of Meligala, Greece in New York. She overcame many challenges in a foreign land but after her husband’s sudden passing, moved back to Greece with son Aristides in 1958.
Although life was good in Greece with loving family, Antigone, keeping her son’s best interests in mind, moved back to Canada, in 1963, settling in Edmonton. She quickly became the “go-to” person in dress making circles with well known clients from all walks of life. But Antigone frequently sewed free for folks in need too. We extend much gratitude and appreciation to the Youville Home in St. Albert for their professional and caring services for Antigone. They all loved her for her gentleness and constant smile. We can not thank Father John Kaoukakis enough for his support and countless uplifting visits with Holy Communion to Antigone, not to mention his eclectic selfies with her!
A Funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 10831 124th Street Edmonton, AB on Saturday June 4, 2016 at 10:00 am. A Graveside service will follow at Northern Lights Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Antigone’s memory may be made directly to the Covenant Foundation (Youville Home) Room 3C60, 11111 Jasper Avenue Edmonton, AB T5K 0L4
