Arnim Kurt Zimmer

Arnim passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his daughter, Susan; son, Robert (Lise Belzile); grandson, James; brothers, Wolfgang and Peter (Nada); and sister, Anita (Pietro) Fraschetti. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Josephine.

His early life was full of adventure – a refugee from his home in Saxony, Germany at 15 and an immigrant to a new country at the age of 22. He started working as a farm labourer behind a horse-drawn plow and ended his career doing computer-assisted drafting at an architecture firm.

We remember Arnim as a generous soul, a lover of swing and old-time jazz, full of curiosity about how things worked and eager to learn how to build or fix whatever he needed for his household. He was passionate about preserving the wild places of Alberta beginning in the 1960s, long before there was any sort of environmental movement, and he was at his happiest hunting for game and picking wild berries in the forest.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 1:00pm to 1:45pm at Memories Funeral Home, 13404 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta with the Funeral Service following at 2:00pm.
