

He was born to proud parents Natha Singh and Prabh Kaur on December 12, 1926, in Ghurial, Punjab, India. He was from very humble beginnings and his parents believed in hard work and educating their children no matter the personal sacrifice. He received his M.A., Bsc., B.T. in Punjab, India and B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba. He was married to his beautiful, loving and fashionable wife Swarn Kaur Parmar from Padhiana daughter of Duman Singh ( Bandook wala) and Sankri Devi Minhas. Mom and Dad were married for 68 years and Mom passed away in 2015. Dad had three brothers, Darshan Singh, Malkiat Singh, and Gian Singh Pohar. He immigrated to Canada in January 1960 with the assistance of his brother Gian Singh Pohar. His family immigrated to Canada in 1967 and the extended family Nachatar and Harinder Walia and Baldev Singh Minhas in 1970.
He touched the lives of thousands of students and parents in Alberta through his celebrated career in education of 35 years, as a teacher and principal. He dedicated his retired life to social and community service. He was a Marriage Commissioner and Notary Public. In these roles he provided volunteer services to all communities for the past 30 years.
Our family wishes to thank his family doctor, Dr. Robert Carter, for his kind and compassionate care for the past 35 years, as well as the Homecare staff for the last 6 months.
He is survived by his two brothers, Malkiat Singh and Gian Singh Pohar and their families, and his five children and their spouses, Amrit (Muzaffer), Surinder (Jasneet), Davinder, Jasbir, Narinder (Parmjeet). He will be fondly remembered by his ten grandchildren and their spouses: Adeel, Mandeep (Aman), Raveena (Christopher), Ruby (Yogesh), Sabrina, Parveen, Damien, Asia, Mya, and Armani. He is greatly missed by his great-grandchild, Aiden.
