Our beautiful mother passed away on July 30, 2024 after a courageous battle with acute liver cirrhosis. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Jasmine, Tamara, and Dany. A truly loving and caring grandmother to Alexis, Christian, Abigail, Javier, Jayden, Logan, Tyson, and Nasir. Blanca is also survived by her siblings Ide, Marina, Alfredo, George, Tito, David, Carlos, Lucrecia, Abel, and Saul. Blanca was born to Santos Mejia (predeceased) and Blanca Lara (predeceased). She was born in El Salvador where at a young age she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Due to her daily demonstration of Christianity, others soon also followed Christ and received salvation. As a single mother in a third world country, she bravely decided to give her children a better life opportunity and immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1988. As an immigrant she faced many obstacles to provide for children, but never once did she say it was unfair. Instead, she would always say with gusto “In life, you have to fight for what you want and work hard.” With her strong work ethic and unwavering faith, she learned a second language, completed her high school diploma, and received her Nursing Aide certificate which lead to a career in Health Care of 25 plus years. Our mom was a very proud and loving grandmother or Gue as all her grandchildren call her. She has played an extremely important role in their upbringing. Not only did she spoil them rotten by playing whatever game they wanted, or cooking whatever food they wanted, she also taught them about love, kindness, and respect. Despite her health issues, our mom also had a smile on her face and enjoyed life to the fullest by diving into her passions for cooking, music, dancing, karaoke, fashion, shopping and Candy Crush. As her children, we will miss her wisdom, the sound of her voice, warm hugs, delicious food, and special way of making everything feel better and possible. There is verse in a Reba McEntire song that describes our mom perfectly “A single mom who works two jobs, who loves her kids and never stops, with gentle hands and the heart of a fighter, I'm a survivor.”
We seek comfort in knowing that where she is now there is no more pain, only peace and love. Someday we will all be together again, and we are sure she will have a huge feast of Salvadorean pupusas waiting for us. We love you Mommy and will strive to make you proud by following your examples and traditions.
