November 07, 1939 – October 03, 2025
Bridget, 85, a longtime resident of Edmonton, AB, Canada passed away peacefully on October 03, 2025, after courageously undergoing hemodialysis for seven years.
Born two years before Japan’s expansion into Southeast Asia during World War II, Bridget’s early years were marked by resilience and perseverance. The second of fourteen children, she learned the values of hard work and compassion from a young age. Her parents, married at just 17 and 16, instilled in her the strength and determination that would define her life.
Bridget was truly remarkable — a natural fighter, a woman of faith, and a prayer warrior. She was multilingual, speaking Mandarin, Malay, Foochow, Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew, Siyap, and English. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through in all that she did — from manufacturing fresh noodles and raising organic chickens and ducks for local markets, to baking intricate royal icing cakes for engagements and birthdays, catering family meals, and even supplying homemade potato chips to the local cinema. She also lovingly provided childcare, nurturing many beyond her own family.
Known for her wit, compassion, and thoughtfulness, Bridget touched countless lives. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel valued and cared for. Her gentle words, kind heart, and selfless spirit were a source of comfort and strength to all who knew her. She carried herself with quiet dignity and a warm, open heart, always putting others before herself. Her kindness and grace brightened the world around her and left an enduring mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
Bridget is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Peter Ing Hoe Yong; her beloved children, Patrick Yong (Margaret), Anthony Yong (Irene), Monica Yong, William Yong, and Maria Yong (Mario); her cherished grandchildren, Merlyn, Patricia, Gregory, Teresa, Bartholomew (June), Grace (Joshua), William, Alexander, Annabella, and Amelie; and her adored great-grandchildren, Meili, June, Raiyn, Roman, and Bridget. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael Wong and Mary Ngu.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Dignity Memorial, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta (T5L 4X1).
Viewing for immediate family will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by public viewing at 2:00 p.m. and Rosary prayers at 2:30 p.m.
Bridget will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her unwavering love, strength, and grace.
