Brigitte “Grandma Birdy” Louise Lust was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister in law, and friend. She left this world suddenly on January 9, 2024, at the age of 75.
Brigitte was born on February 7, 1948, in Germany, to Bruno and Hedwig Schrein (predeceased). At a very young age they immigrated to Canada, first arriving to Saskatchewan and settling in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Following high school, Brigitte married her soul mate, Lloyd Lust, on December 17th, 1966. Together, they had three children: Mark (Phyllis), Laura (Steve) and and Valarie (Shane); four grandchildren: Spencer, Natashia, Meaghan, and Kennedy; and two great grandchildren, Cassiana and Jaxon.
Lloyd and Brigitte started their life together in Medicine Hat. Following the birth of their first two children, life took them to Fox Creek where they continued to expand their family to five and Brigitte completed her Word Processing and Data Entry diploma. Wetaskiwin was the next stop in their adventure, where Brigitte stayed home raising her beautiful children and finally on to Lamont which they called home for the last 44 years.
Lamont was where her working career began. First at the Lamont Drug store and then onto Canada Post where she worked for almost 20 years. It was in this career where she was able to keep an eagle eye on the attendance of her children through her daily talks with the school Principal, or catching them in the act of skipping school at the local Parkview restaurant.
Born from her weekly treks out to Mundare, driving her children to Air Cadets, was where one of Brigitte’s proudest achievements began. Joining the officer staff of 341 Mundare Air Cadet squadron, she worked up the ranks to Captain, ultimately becoming the Commanding officer where she worked diligently for 10 years. Her love for her cadets was unmistakable; through the years, Brigitte always kept in touch with how their careers progressed.
Brigitte loved spending her time sewing, knitting, creating amazing scrapbooks and cards, and beautiful keepsakes for her friends and family, passing along the love for crafting to her Grandchildren.
Brigitte was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her cadets.
Brigitte was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her friends and family.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1:30pm on January 16, 2024, at the Memories Funeral Home. In the spirit of Brigitte’s great love for Air Cadets, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Air Cadet League of Canada.
