She was diagnosed in mid-December, and the shock that came with the diagnosis was felt by many. It was amazing to see her resolve in the face of such a hard truth.
Connie loved her husband, Ron Dubé, more than anyone or anything in the world. They started as teenage sweethearts and they loved each other more at the end than at the beginning of their love story. Truly an example to all of us about working through all the ups and downs of life and love and marriage. What an honour it was to watch them love each other.
Connie loved her kids and their spouses deeply. She loved to brag about her kids and took such pride in them. She loved them with all she had. But her heart extended even more for her grandkids. Grandma’s love for them was as deep as the ocean, and she could never get enough of them. She spoiled them and gave everything she could to them. They all knew that and cherished her for it.
Connie had siblings and siblings-in-law that she loved so much. She was so close to many of them and shared many unforgettable memories with them. She loved being the original “Doobette” and took such pride in who she was to so many family members. She was an awesome Auntie to so many and treated her nieces and nephews so well, opening her home to all. They loved her so much.
Connie had many amazing friends. She cared for them in the true sense of what friendship is. She was there for them. She was helpful. She was empathetic. She was thoughtful. She loved them, and they loved her. It was inspiring to witness. Loyalty beyond words!
Connie was an incredible florist for years. So talented at her craft. She loved her yard and flowers. She had a passion for making things look amazing with her personal flair and touch. Many people had their wedding flowers done by Connie and were blessed by her talents.
Connie was also an Educational Assistant/Librarian for almost 20 years. Her love for the kids brought so much into their lives. There’s no doubt that she brought that love into the lives of her work friends as well. She loved working in a school. It brought her happiness and joy. She talked about ‘her’ kids and her co-workers like they were family.
Connie loved hockey. We called her the Don Cherry of Grandmas. She loved the big hits and fights as much as she loved the beautiful goals. And no one on the ice was better than the kid with Dubé on the back of their jersey. No one.
She was full of encouragement for the things that interested her grandkids. Whether it be her granddaughter’s artwork or sharing in life lessons she was always willing to listen and give what she had of her wisdom and love.
Connie was a woman of strong faith. A faith that gave her strength in times when most people wouldn’t have had strength, and it was no different at the end. It brought peace to her and a positive focus that was incredible to see and was felt by so many. Her faith guided her home.
We will miss her every day.
