Dalton Kenneth Bristow was born to John “Jack” William and Maude May Bristow on March 8, 1932 in Islay, Alberta. He was the youngest of 10 siblings, Beryl, Harold, Irene, Margaret, Phyllis, Alma, Myrtle, John and Joe. Growing up in the 30’s he learned how to work and how to save. Dalton moved to Edmonton when he was 16. He apprenticed as a Tin Smith and then joined the Edmonton Telephone Repair Shop in 1955. During this time he met his wife, Valley Torresan. They were married on June 3, 1961. Together they had 3 girls, Karen, Janice and Tracey. He continued with his education attending night school while working and raising his family. Dalton’s love of driving led to many family holidays to British Columbia and Arizona (via Las Vegas of course). They bought the cabin at Pigeon Lake in 1971 where many eventful weekends were spent with family and friends, enjoying bonfires, swimming, playing cards, games and socializing. In 1977 the family welcomed their beloved dog, Scamp. Scamp became known as the Pigeon Lake beach bum. Dalton was instrumental in the organization of the Scottish pipe and drum band, The Edmonton Highlanders. Much of his time was devoted to this in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He retired in 1988 from Edmonton Telephones as the repair shop manager. He then had more time to enjoy golfing, curling, darts, cards, gardening and cooking. He also was able to spend more time with his grandchildren, Patrick and Jamie. Dalton and Valley loved to travel throughout Canada and the United States, usually driving to their destinations. Dalton would never live down the memorable trip out east where he forgot Valley at a gas station in North Battleford. They always enjoyed their travels be it on their own or with Sam and Sharon or Stan and Mary. After his wife of 46 years passed, his travelling slowed down. He enjoyed nothing better than time spent with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his rousing renditions of the Wabash Cannonball, When The Work’s All Done This Fall, Found A Peanut and many other golden oldies. His many nieces and nephews will remember him as quite the character. His sons-in-law will remember him as a great father-in-law, his grandchildren will remember him as a wonderful grandfather and his daughters will remember him as the best dad ever. He will be missed.
