David Watson Campbell, age 71, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on February 9, 2026, after a long journey with frontotemporal degeneration (FTD).
David was born in 1954 in Cornwall, Ontario, to Archie and Agnes Campbell. David moved to Edmonton in the late 1970s and worked on civil engineering projects with Alberta Transportation and ISL Engineering, spending a large portion of his career with a team responsible for designing the Anthony Henday ring road.
David was known for his dry humour, his love of running and biking in the Edmonton river valley, and his inspiring commitment to his work and career. He enjoyed gardening, eating ice cream, watching any activities his grandchildren were in, and ending the day with a scotch at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. He was always there for his daughters, rushing to every roadside emergency or empty gas tank, helping move, renovate, and fix appliances, and even chase bees out of the basement.
David is survived by his children, Heather (Jordan) and Elyse (Ian); his four grandchildren Liam, Posey, Marlow and Sophie; and his brother, Glen, and his sister, Mary. He will be missed deeply by all.
He was predeceased by his mother Agnes, his father Archie, and his brother Ewen.
A private family service will take place later this year.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre for their care of David. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org.
