June 22, 1950 – December 28, 2025
Donald (Don) Dean Carter passed away on December 28, 2025, in Edmonton, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy. He was 75 years old.
Born on June 22, 1950, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Don was the youngest of four children born to the late Wallace and Madeline Carter. Growing up in the Carter household, Don was the "baby" of the family, a role that shaped his quick wit and his deep appreciation for family bonds.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and two of his siblings, Pauline Young and Bill Carter. He is survived by his eldest sister, Pat Mault.
Don was first and foremost a devoted family man. His wife, Darlene, was the love of his life, and together they shared countless adventures, traveling the world side by side. He was a proud and loving father to his children: Darla; Jacqui (Brad); and Dean (Erin).
His greatest joy came from his grandchildren—Zach and Evan; Sidney, Becker, and Graydon; Riley, Katie, and Ally; and Pauline and Ariana. Don cherished every moment with them and was deeply involved in their lives, always present for their activities, milestones, and accomplishments.
Those who knew Don knew his heart. He lived fully in the present moment, always ready for a good time and always finding joy in the people around him. He had a rare ability to see the best in everyone and never judged or spoke poorly of others. His kindness, generosity, and easygoing nature made people feel welcome and valued.
Don had a lifelong love of music and was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed watching all sports, with a special fondness for horse racing. Whether at home, traveling, or surrounded by family, he embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude.
Don’s life was defined by love—love for his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and the many friends whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the warmth, joy, and goodness he brought into the world.
