It’s almost 2am on a small island in Finland where I live now, and I can’t sleep. Before bed, I was telling my husband about men from my life who are no longer with us, and had to share about you. I told him about how you showed up for me when I was in need, like the time you brought me everything I asked for on my ever-expanding grocery list when I had covid. And how you were the only person I saw during that quarantine. 

My husband also knows about my mental health struggles (like you did), and asked “Wasn’t he the guy who picked you up from a bridge when you were doing really unwell?” You *were* that guy. You were so many things to me in the short time we knew each other & I thank you so much for taking care of me. The pure kindness and acceptance you showed me when so many others didn’t gave me faith in humanity again.

I hope you’re showing all the new angels around & helping them out up there, just as you did down here.

Dustin, I was just thinking about you,and how the campout is coming up and our last conversation was about how you never missed it. And when we went, you weren't there, soo ironic the way the dates fall again this year. Close anyway. 

I miss you brother. You were a diamond, a girls best friend.  I Hope you are enjoying the whole new crew up there with you.  Especially one of the newest editions, Ozzy.  This weekend hunn, I hope you are with us.

I have been trying to contact Dusty for a very long time. Passing three years ago is actually really upsetting because he was such a good friend to me and I know how much he struggled. I wish I knew about this three years ago, but I can’t change any of that, rest in peace, my dear sweet friend

Thinking about an old friend today, as we're not far from his birthday and the end of the first year since he left us.

Wish I would have known you better in these last few years Dusty.  I still remember some good laughs from our days at St Phillips and Cardinal Leger, and the hijinks our crew would get up to on Whyte much later.  You left too early Dustin.

I am so saddened to hear about this. You were my first boyfriend, my first kiss. I remember when we stayed behind cardinal leger with Dana and Marek. 
Visits to your house later on in junior high and visiting you at your apartment downtown. I honestly will miss you. I have many many fond memories of you. Calling MR.D a fruit and being suspended and the list could go on. I hope you fly high my friend you will always hold a special

Dustin...my heart is heavy...when I came into 14 and a half years ago your smiling welcoming face was there.You are such a kind, funny,big hearted guy that I will miss until my last breath. I also got in some pretty heated debates and arguments but that's true friendship.Your face was a constant and I still can't comprehend I won't see it anymore.I hope you are with Derek in paradise resting easy.love you

What's up Buddy?  You know you were supposed to bring the egg mc muffins right? We missed you, it wasn't like you to miss out on a great adventure outdoors, and when I heard the news it was a shock to the system, still is. You were one of those people, that like it was said, ACTUALLY HAD a big heart and a generous hand. You were soo kind and adventurous, and not a cruel bone in your body.  One hundred percent a true Gem. And when they say only the good die young, well my friend, you were most definitely one of the Best. No matter what, you will always be in my heart. Make tons of friends on the other side, brother and may you rest easy. 

I only met Dustin 7yrs ago but we became fast friends. I will remember cheering against the oilers in the last run when my jets swept them and chirping him. I will remember camping every summer and building a camp kitchen together to Feed those who didn't bring any food. I will remember yang ming and cineplex when he was struggling to wind down. I loved you brother and will always cherish our time together.

I have so many amazing memories of Dustin. From the Lakeview pub days to playing ball. Dustin had the BEST personality and you couldn’t help but laugh and smile when he was around. I feel so grateful to have our paths crossed through this life.  

My love, thoughts and prayers go to The Way family. Please take comfort in knowing that Dustin will forever be in our thoughts and we will forever keep his memory alive. 


Hey old friend.  So sad to hear about your passing...

A lot of memories through elementary, junior high and definitely some fun times in our late teens and early twenties.  Dusty, I'll always remember your love for the Blackhawks, your classic Dustin laugh and your ever-present smile.  We'll see you again someday bud.  Godspeed and safe travels into the next adventure.

It breaks my heart to hear this news.  This was a brother that I grew up with.  Shared the love of the Edmonton Oilers, Skiing and Snowboarding, heavy metal music, computer games, and so many more common interests.  When the Edmonton Oilers win the Stanley Cup you will be watching with us all buddy.  

My best memory:
Me:  "Can I go 120?"
Dustin:  Do you realize you just asked the cop if you can break the law!?"

I have many memories of Dustin. He was always there to make me laugh when I was down. We enjoyed many walks and many frostys together. I've known him for 25 years. It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this. His kindness and love will be forever missed.
