Edward "Ted" Arunah Collinson

April 16, 1931 – Wilkie (Reford), Saskatchewan

October 17, 2025 – Edmonton, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward (Ted) Collinson at the age of 94 years. Ted will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children: Douglas Collinson, Robert Collinson (Rekha) of Edmonton, Susan (Tom) Collinson-Vesely of Westlock. Ted (Papa) will also be fondly remembered for his love for his grandchildren: Ross Collinson (Bonnie) of Calgary, Ryan (Marta) Collinson, Ian (Krista) Collinson, Laura Collinson of Edmonton; Jason (Kiana) Vesely, Curtis Vesely of Westlock; great grandchildren: Theodore, Dilyn, Mila, Ethan of Edmonton; Brother-in-law David (Gaylene) Ebbesen and Sister-in-law Jytte Ebbesen. Ted was predeceased by his wife Nellie (nee Ebbesen), his parents Herbert and Catherine Collinson (nee Cushing) and sisters Lena Collinson and Enid Renaud.

Ted was born on the family farm in the Rural Municipality of Reford, Saskatchewan, He had very fond memories of the farm and Wilkie, the nearest town they travelled to each week. Ted spoke of those experiences often, harnessing the horses and driving the neighborhood kids to school at a very young age was his favourite memory.

Ted was a member of the Edmonton Police Service April 1953 – November 1990. As a 37 year member, he was respected and spoken of highly by everyone who encountered him. His principles he lived by never changed; respect for everyone, everyone is equal, importance of family, take risks in life, do not be afraid of failure and find someone to help push forward. Ted was a community volunteer, coach and leader. He travelled broadly, enjoying many golfing vacations with his wife Nellie.

In keeping with Ted’s wishes, no funeral Service will be held. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life with family and friends on January 24, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Kingsway Branch 14339 50 St NW Edmonton.
