The earthly life of Gladys Annie Green came to an end on February 11, 2025 at her home in Edmonton, Alberta. Gladys left on her next great journey with her indomitable spirit of adventure at the ready, and fond wishes of farewell for all those she loved.
Gladys was born in Prince Edward Island, the fourth child of Thomas and Marguerite Hammill. She moved to Edmonton as a young bride in 1957 and had four children by the autumn of 1962. While raising this brood, she worked as a book-keeper / accountant for several small oil and gas companies, and made significant contributions to her fledgling community through volunteerism and advocacy.
Later in life she fulfilled her personal ambition of travelling the world. On her own, as well as with friends and family, her adventures spanned the globe: Europe, Asia, Africa, India, United States, China, South America, and Oceania. She hung up her hat only once she had been everywhere she wanted to go.
Her sense of social responsibility continued in her home in the community of Sunrise Village in Edmonton, where she volunteered on the Board and made many good friends. She also volunteered with senior support organizations.
She will be remembered often and fondly by her friends, extended family, and especially by her children; David (Shannon), Paula, Barry and Sandra; grandchildren, Terilee, Scott, Craig, Tony, Jessica, Ray and Jacquie; and great grandchildren, Caelan, Betheny, Paisley and Kevin.
She was a true individual who will continue to be a source of inspiration and comfort to all who had the privilege to know her.
A ceremony will be held at 10:00 am Thursday February 20th, 2025 at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810-34 Avenue NW with a reception following the interment.
In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
