It is with great sadness, but with wonderful memories, that we announce the passing of Gladys Ridley, our cherished and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 100. She was in the loving arms of those she loved and who loved her. What a wonderful milestone to achieve with a life well lived!
Gladys was born in Onoway, AB to Markus and Rosa Baschke. She lived on a farm in the Dunstable area with her ten siblings. She married Arthur Ridley on December 30, 1941 and later moved to Edmonton, AB. Gladys enjoyed family gatherings, doing jigsaw puzzles and beating opponents in crib games. She was an avid reader and loved to write. Her interest in family history inspired her to write and publish three books containing the past and present history of both her and her husband’s parents and grandparents. Her legacy of unconditional love for her family will never be forgotten.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Robert (Bob) Dianne; Ruth Swan (Dennis – deceased), David (Dave) Donna; and Rodney (Rod) Melanie and her niece, Clara Guest, who she cherished as her own. She left ten grandchildren: Tony (Cindy) and Truda Ridley; Joan (Michael) and Rob Swan; Jason (Kim) and Ashley (Erika) Kirkpatrick; Jeana (Brandon) Ridley and Pamela Ridley (Granville Froese); Denise (Darcy) Zimmerman and Brent (Colleen) Knudslien. She had six great-grandchildren: Justin (Kamila) and Steven Ridley; Daniel Helvert; Sylvie Froese; Ashlee and Brandon (Meagan) Zimmerman.

A funeral service will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Edmonton AB, on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10:00 am following a viewing at 9:00 am.
Following lunch the burial will commence at Willow Wilde Cemetery near Barrhead.
