It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) Mervin Craig at the age of 78 years. Born in Edmonton on September 29th, 1945 to parents William and Jessie Craig, Jim was number 5 of 9 children.
After attending Strathcona High School, Jim started working for his brother-in-law Chuck in Smoky Lake, where he met his wife. He continued his career in Edmonton as an auto body mechanic, opening his own shop in northeast Edmonton. In 1981, he shelved his tools and began his long career at Wawanesa as an insurance appraiser, continuing this until his retirement in 2010.
Hockey was a big part of Jim's life, playing it as a child, watching Oilers games, coaching minor hockey, and eventually starting the Edmonton Royals Jr. B Hockey Club with his close friend John Anderson. He went on to become president of the club, and volunteered many years in the hockey community.
Jim loved golfing, had a knack for a good BBQ, and picked up stain glass making later in life. He was a man of integrity, good-natured, and was well-liked by all who met him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (nee Demchuk), son Bryan (Shelley), daughter Jackie (Mike), grandson Zayden (Helena), siblings Isa, Dorothy, Gwen, Louie, Tommy and Rose, and many nieces and nephews who he adored.
Jim was predeceased by his parents William and Jessie, siblings Jessie, Bill and Robbie, niece Judy, and nephews Trent, Kelly, Cory and Craig.
