I am deeply saddened to hear of Jason's passing. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family. Jason was a heck of a guy that I will remember fondly. The Canadian forest sector has lost a good one – he will be greatly missed.

Greg and Jan, I can't even imagine how completely and utterly your heart is shattered. I am so very sorry for your deep brokenness. I remember well your kindness when you phoned me Jan when my husband Ron passed. I just wanted to tell you now in turn, that I am so very sad for you all.. I want to acknowledge Jenn's deep pain too as a twin. To the entire family, know that many people are holding you up. Your family is held in very high esteem in this community.

We hold you and your family in our prayers.   As colleagues, we continue to treasure those times we journeyed together with you two, ...wandering the northern boreal forest, or flying over it in awe at its scale, and working together in meeting rooms celebrating the accomplishments and lessons of science discovery and ecology.

I fondly recall Jason and Charlene were both steadfast in their reliability as diligent frontline field program administrators, mentors, talented coordinators and stewards of that northern Canada gemstone;  the “EMEND" forest research station.  It was evident to many of us that Jason (and Charlene) were tireless and always considerate in their dedication to significant behind-the-scenes efforts to keep that science program's wheels turning in both positive days and challenging times.  Jason was widely known as a central key "go-to” person and EMEND’s heavy-lift “field ambassador" for so many years.  
I know that my fellow colleagues in industry, government and academia greatly appreciated and valued his many years of collaboration, his enthusiasm and unquestionable reliability. He has always been and will be remembered for his loyalty to that important national treasure in ecological study. He was ever willing to engage fully the great responsibility tied to his roles, and to support both our needs and those of the countless cohorts of students who called that special project in the wilderness "home" for many many years. 
Their and our memories of that place and those special field-days or meeting times together would not have been the same without Jason's persona, his true grit and his critical contributions to that experience. He was a true big brother to many and a great colleague to many.  Jason and Charlene are engraved in the heart of the legacy that is EMEND for the many of us blessed to have touched that project and to have crossed paths with their bright spirits during our careers.

I grew up with Jason for a large part of my younger childhood; he was my best friend for many years. Jason was a kind person who looked past all my obvious flaws as a weird kid. I will remember our time playing hockey, playing war in the forest, taking family trips and having many sleepovers. I have not spoken to him in a long time, but this news, which I have just learned, has crushed me. I don't know what to write, but the Jason I knew was a determined hard worker at school, a great team player and accepting of everyone. He will be missed dearly, even after all this time.

Jason was a friend of the Yukon. He was enthusiastic about forestry, climate change and relationship building between First Nations, stakeholders and various agencies. He enjoyed his time here when he was able to travel to Whitehorse for work. I know he wanted to bring his family up here one day.

As a NOFC colleague, I had the chance to interact with Jason on many occasions.  Jason was always kind, helpful and a good listener, whether we were talking about forest, climate change or anything else. He was very knowledgeable and a true gentleman.

As a childhood friend and schoolmate of Jennifer and Jason’s, I have many fond memories of time spent with the Edwards family, who always welcomed me into their home as though I was one of their kids.

Jason was everything that everyone who knew and loved him have said - a quiet, strong, dependable, genuine leader and trustworthy friend — an all-around wholesome nice guy with a great sense of humour (my sister and I nicknamed him TanJay). 

My heart is broken for Charlene, their beautiful kids, and the entire Edwards family, and hope that solace comes from the memories of the truly wonderful man Jason was, gone far too soon.

The above photograph depicts Jason, Charlene and the 2010 EMEND Core Crew. Jason's determined hard work was critical to establishment and the early success of the EMEND Project. He had an uncanny ability to bring people together to focus happily on common goals.

I had the opportunity to work with Jason some years ago at the CFS. He was a man of principle, strong ethics and innovation. I was always impressed by his enthusiasm and strong connections with his colleagues and friends. I am very saddened by his passing and I know he will always be remembered for his quiet leadership and thoughtfulness. I pass along my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

One thing I always valued about my friendship with Jason is no matter how much time had passed between times we last chatted, we would always pick up our conversation like we had just talked the day before.  I will forever cherish the times we spent together and the stories we shared.  A dear friend who I’ve known for almost my whole life, he will be missed.

My sympathies and sincere condolences to Jason's family for their loss. May you find peace, comfort, and all the love you need in the days to come.

We met in person once (in Feb 2023 during your visit  to Ottawa) and several times before and after that in-person visit. You were kind, thoughtful and a good listener. My sincerest condolences to your wife, children, extended family, friends and co-workers.  Your loss is felt by so many.
