Joan was born July 1, 1929, in Vancouver B.C. Her family subsequently moved to Bashaw Alberta, where she was raised along with her sister and two brothers. She married Gordon Dahl on February 9, 1952. Joan and Gordon had two daughters and lived most of their married lives in Regina.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barb Burton (Ken), Jacquie Dahl-Warren (Marty); four grandchildren, Erin Burton (Jeremy), Tyler Burton (Geena), David Warren, Nikki Warren; and three great grandchildren, Kieran, Brooke, and Dylan. Joan was predeceased by her sister Shirley Goliss, brother-in law Ron Goliss, her brothers Jack Breum and Bob Breum, and her parents Charlotte and Bill Breum.
Joan enjoyed golf, gardening, socializing with neighbours and raising her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She delighted in hosting dinner parties for family and friends. However, her favourite times were having her grandchildren over for dinner on the weekends or occasional sleepovers, as well as having everyone over for birthday parties and dinners. She made delicious birthday cakes that were a big hit with the grandkids.
After Gordon passed in 2021, Joan needed more care due to Alzheimer’s, and she relocated to MacTaggart Place in the Memory Care Unit where she lived until being hospitalized at the end of April. We thank the wonderful care team on the third floor as well as the Management and administration team who were all so compassionate, personable, and caring. The staff all knew her name and went out of their way to talk to and comfort Joan. We also want to thank the ER staff at the Devon Hospital for their compassionate care in her final days.
A memorial for Joan will be held 2 pm on June 9 at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 34 Ave, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
