December 5, 1952 ~ March 16, 2020
It is with immense sadness that the family of Judith McDonald (née Matrai), known to most as Judi, announces her passing on Monday, March 16, 2020 at the age of 67. Judi will be lovingly remembered by her husband; Colin of 43 years, her four children; John, Bruce, Neil, and Katherine, her granddaughter; Ruth, and her brother; Geza. She was predeceased by her parents; Dr. Geza and Kata Matrai. She will also be lovingly remembered by other members of her immediate and extended family and by a large community of both local and international friends. Judi was born in Szombathely, Hungary and came with her family to Canada, ultimately to Edmonton, at the age of 4, where she lived until moving to St. Albert with Colin and her children in 1997. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Education and taught for many years with the Edmonton Catholic Schoolboard, and later for a short time at Avicenna International College in Budapest. After she retired, she enjoyed spending extended time at her second home in Budapest, Hungary and traveling the world, documenting and sharing her adventures through photography. She was a creative and artistic person, qualities she shared with and supported in each of her children. She will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her as a rebellious, highly original, and generous person who spent time genuinely connecting with everyone she met.
Judi will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery alongside her parents. She will be laid to rest during a private ceremony. A memorial gathering for Judi will be announced at a later date and all will be warmly welcome to attend. Donations in memory of Judi may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association (https://www.diabetes.ca/donate).
