Peggy was born at home, in Rivers Manitoba on August 18th, 1918, the youngest of four girls. After schooling was finished, grade 11 which was the highest grade available at that time, Peggy worked as a telephone operator. She met Bob Lang, a widower with two young boys, during the war, marrying him in 1946, after the passing of her mom who she was looking after. Peggy moved to Edmonton, living in Strathcona until she and Bob moved to their newly built home in 1952. At that point, they had 3 children. Peggy stayed home, looking after the kids, now numbering four. She kept busy running the home very efficiently, gardening and canning in the fall.
After dad was gone, her sister Alice moved into the family house. Mom joined the newly formed South East Edmonton Senior’s Centre, volunteering in the kitchen, playing bingo. Mom learned how to disc, going to the Alberta Senior’s games a few times, once winning silver for discing. Mom also joined a senior’s bowling league and went on many bowling trips to BC. They also went on bus tours, and flew to Reno frequently to gamble, as well as traveling to Rivers to visit their sister Frances. Mom and Alice went on a bus tour to Nevada, San Francisco and Los Angeles, where they went to Disneyland which mom loved! She always said Disneyland was for adults, not kids.
Physically she was declining, and during Covid, there was further decline. Friends and family were all gone, and depression increased, interest in eating declined, and mom started falling more often. It was determined she wasn’t well enough to go back home, so she was transferred to a continuing care facility where she passed away on February 12th at the age of 105 and a half.
Survived by children June (Mark) Stroyan, Shirley (Rick) Keeler, Brian Lang and Rick (Susan) Lang, 15 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Predeceased by her loving husband Robert (Bob) Lang, her sisters Alice Tufts, Dorothy Livesey, and Frances Bird, her stepsons Robert Lang and Stuart Lang, and granddaughter Darlene Lang.
A special thank you to the 3rd floor Willow staff of HolSome Place for their loving care for Peggy in her final months. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home in the late spring.
