Mary Gertrude (Trudy) Duncan passed away in the early hours of December 31, 2020. She was 88 years young, a proud mother of four children – Susan (Richard), Rod, Lori (Andy), and Glenn (Lorna); six grandchildren – Jonas, Natalie, Zackary, Samual, Martin, Donovan, and four great grandchildren. Trudy is also loved and remembered by her sister Maxine; nieces and nephews, and Paschak cousins. She was predeceased by her husband John Allen (Al) Duncan; mother Pearl Angus; mother-in-law Mildred Bunyan, and daughter-in-law Ann Duncan.
A woman of contrast and spirit, Trudy loved family life as well as work accomplishments outside of the home, and she enjoyed both city and country life. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She enjoyed reminiscing about early years spent on the homestead of her Ukrainian immigrant grandparents overlooking the MacLeod River, and later attending a one room schoolhouse (Drostan) in the Edson area.
While she and Al raised their family, Trudy held a strong and dedicated work ethic, working tirelessly in and out of the home in retail, government and industry positions in Edmonton and Calgary. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was also caregiver to family members who faced health challenges.
Trudy returned to her country roots later in life, living at the Reflection Lake home in the Edson area. She loved her life with family and friends, the birds and wildlife, and feeding the squirrels and her beloved chickadees in winter.
The family is grateful for the excellent care Trudy received while living at Glastonbury Seniors Residence in Edmonton over the past 3 years from dedicated and skilled staff including Nurses and Health Care Aides; their continuous care enabled her independence, comfort and safety.
Trudy, Mom, Grandma, Friend, Aunt, Cousin will be greatly missed and her memories cherished by those who knew her and were inspired by her humour, song, care, dogged determination, kindness, flair, cooking and love.
The family will gather with friends to celebrate Trudy’s life when it is safe to do so.
Rest in peace and love dear Trudy– we will look to your spirit and soul “out home” in the Reflection Lake timbers and sunsets.
In lieu of flowers and in Trudy’s memory, the family suggests you may wish to support your local Humane Society or Food Bank.
