Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathleen (son-in-law Reid); grandchildren Kalie, Kelsey (Brandon); and great-grandchildren Aiden, Karsen, and Brooks. She is also survived by her son-in-law Todd, sisters-in-law Hazel, Violet, Fiona and Elizabeth as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Rob; her daughter Moira; her grandson Robbie; and her eight brothers and sisters.
Mary was born on October 5, 1939, in Montrose, Scotland, to parents Percival and Francis. As a young lass, she helped support her family by working as a housekeeper and completing many chores after school. They lived in a large home similar to a duplex called Mains of Dunn. At the age of 16, Mary met the love of her life, Rob, whose family had moved into the other half of the house. After Rob returned home from serving his country, they were married in 1958 and together raised two daughters. While living in Scotland, Mary and Rob moved to several farms, where Mary worked tirelessly alongside him, embracing all aspects of farm life.
In 1972, the family made the courageous decision to immigrate to Alberta, Canada. Mary worked at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in housekeeping and later became a House Mum for the nurses’ residence.
Mary’s retirement years were spent in British Columbia, Newfoundland, and eventually back in Alberta. She enjoyed going for walks, taking in the countryside, curling, cheering for the Edmonton Oilers, and finding joy in birds, flowers, and gardening. Above all else, her greatest passion was her family and friends. Mary was the most genuine, kind, gentle, and sweet person and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Memories Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, #306, 10430 61 Avenue Edmonton, AB. T6H 2J3, alzheimer.ab.ca
