He leaves behind his loving wife, Kari-Lynne of 35 years; daughters, Chelsea and Jennifer; sisters, Bonny Rambarran (Reg), Shirley Sommert Ogden (Dean), and Holly Sommert. He will also be remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Mel was born in Calgary on August 15, 1958. At a very young age, Mel and his family moved to Edmonton where he spent the rest of his life. Early on in his life, Mel fell in love with the game of hockey—he played it, he loved it and he watched it. Mel figured out at a young age his love for cooking, which led to his life long career. He worked at many places over the years, from family restaurants, fine dining and senior lodges.
Mel’s ability to talk to people came easy to him, which led to a long list of friends. Mel’s many friendships carried him through to the end.
Our family extends our heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion in dealing with Mel and our family.
