It is with sympathy that we learn of the passing of Dr. Rajat Maitra.

We have very fond memories of ‘Raj’ as he was known to us when we worked at Alberta Hospital, Ponoka. 
Both my husband and myself do not recall the exact dates we worked with Raj, but it was over several years. I would often run into him as we went back and forth between several units.  We always stopped and had a chat usually about general  happenings in our lives.  

Alberta Hospital was home to a large group of patients for whom the staff were very much seen as family.  Many of the staff had worked at the hospital for considerable years and were also very much a family-like group.  Raj was very much liked and respected by both patients and staff and I know will be remembered as a friendly, caring  physician. 

May we pass on our thoughts and sympathy to Raj’s family.

Dear Mrs. Maitra and family,

Please accept our deepest condolences on the the passing away of Dr. Maitra. I have experienced the unassuming gentle kindness of Dr. Maitra as a medical student and resident on call with him at the Grey Nuns, and then as a fellow psychiatrist. He always had a chuckle and sparkling smile that made me feel at home and comfortable in his presence. May you find comfort during this time of mourning. Thank-you for supporting him so that he could serve so many patients and the wider community over many years. He will be missed by his psychiatric colleagues.

I worked in the Cedar Park clinic while Dr. Blashko and Dr. Maitra were as yet not retired. Dr. Maitra and I had many interesting conversations throughout the years.  He was such a gentle soul.

So sorry to hear the news. He was a good man. I remember tagging along with my dad to some of the weekly sessions with Raj, Dennis and Matt. I learned a lot by just listening to the give and take of their conversations which were always lively and interesting. The respect they showed to each other was also a great takeaway lesson. Rest in peace Babumama! We are going to miss you. You have dedicated your entire life in helping the whole family. The unconditional love and support you have provided to everyone, are simply unthinkable. I am so lucky and grateful to have you as my uncle. You have loved and supported me like your own daughter. You and Maima have constantly been beside me since the day I entered Canada. You both have opened your home and hearts to me so that I can feel at home. 

After a lifetime of being there for others, I guess, it is time for you to say Goodbye. It is indeed one of the saddest and hardest goodbyes for me. The whole family will miss you terribly. We shall miss your unconditional love, your genuine concern for others and your ability to listen to everyone and provide them with the best possible guidance. We shall miss all the family fun trips and gatherings, planned and conducted whole-heartedly by you. 

Although, life will not be the same without you, but you have given the entire family so many great memories to reminisce, therefore, you shall always be alive in all our minds and hearts.

Babuda was such a person with a loving , gentle personality and so are you... we all are deeply mourning... May his soul  rest in peace.

Initially we met when we both worked in ponoka in the mid seventies and of course later when we shared office space in edmonton.Raj was a gentle man,gracious ,kind ,and a very fine colleague.
