It is so sad to know Ron's passing.
I can still remember his smile in my memory

So sorry Vivian, just heard about Ron's passing today.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of great sorrow. Tom & Joan Fullam.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Ron's passing. As children growing up in a small town, Ron and I shared a special bond.  He, the only child at home, and me, an only child, shared many happy boyhood memories.
We were like brothers, I was Jesse and he was Frank. Outlaws in the wild west.  Just like the westerns that we watched in the old Hay Lakes Theatre.  We always sat in the front row so we could be close to the action.  Western movies were definitely our favourite.

Ron and I also shared a passion for sports.  Hockey, baseball and football took up most of our free time after school.  Since our small town only had an outdoor hockey rink which never had skateable ice until December, Ron and I would go out and test the nearest slough after the first heavy frosts in November.  Often, if you didn't skate fast enough, you would break through and get a skate boot full of water.  I remember Ron becoming an excellent player as we entered organized hockey in our early teens. 

Ron also had a newspaper route.  The Edmonton Journal would come in on the old steam powered freight train around 5:00 PM.  He would deliver  papers to the whole town which probably only took him about an hour.  If we had a hockey or ball game in the evening, I would help him with his delivery.  We would try to set new time records.  I think we got it down to about 25 minutes.  Dealing with his money collections (no internet then) probably got him started in his interest in banking.

Ron and his family moved to Edmonton when we were beginning high school.  Ron and I still tried to connect but it was difficult and we gradually lost touch.

I have so many fond memories of Ron, mother Mary and father Paul that I could share.  I apologize for not being able to attend Ron's celebration of life.   Christmas family commitments.

The Lorne Rubis family is deeply saddened by Ron's sudden and shocking passing. We extend our most sincere condolences with the understanding that words cannot adequately convey the empathy we have for Viv, Drew, Dawn, and Ron's mother, Mary . We also understand how much he will be missed by extended family and many friends. Ron was a man who touched everyone in lasting ways with his kindness, humour and willingness to always help. I had the privilege of knowing him all my life and will miss him . That twinkle in his eye and chuckle however is there to reach for forever and for that ...thank you Ron !!

I first met Mr Karpyshyn in 1986 when he gave me a ride to the water park at west Edmonton mall with his lovely daughter Dawn. He was a kind man. 
I am saddened by his sudden passing and feel for Mrs. Karpyshyn, Dawn and Drew. I am so sorry for your loss.
