With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Ronald August Knopp on June 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Ron passed peacefully at Buck Lake, a place he loved deeply and where he spent many cherished moments with his family.
Born in Edmonton and raised in New Sarepta, Ron built a full and vibrant life rooted in hard work, family, and connection. He spent his career in sales within Alberta’s oil and gas industry, a role that allowed him to travel extensively across the province and connect with people from all walks of life, something he did with ease and joy.
Ron was known for his outgoing spirit, kind heart, and unwavering work ethic. He was passionate about sports, especially hockey, and enjoyed fishing and curling throughout his life. Some of his happiest days were spent at Buck Lake, where he found peace, laughter, and meaning in time spent with those he loved. Whether fishing, watching a game in the cabin, or simply soaking in the stillness of the lake and the sounds of the birds, Ron made Buck Lake a gathering place for unforgettable family memories.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Maxine Ann Knopp; his twin brother, Don; his parents, John and Alice; his stepmother, Lydia; and his siblings Myrtle, Lorraine, Oliver, and Bill.
Ron leaves behind a family who loved him deeply: his children Sandy René (Michel), Kerri Sack (John), and Kevin Knopp; his grandchildren Amanda René, Justin René, Travis Best (Torie), Riley Sack, and Taylor Sack. He was a proud great-grandfather to Payton, Cara, and Cohen.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Dorothy, Nona (Jerry), Aileen (Jim), Wayne (Maureen), Jim, Wes (Donna), and Adolph (Hazel); and by his sisters-in-law Gloria, Jackline and Val. Ron had a special bond with his extended family and will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 34 Ave NW in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta SPCA, a cause close to Ron’s heart.
