October 18th, 1929 - January 5th, 2011
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Ross (Mac) McDonald. Ross will be remembered for so many qualities, but one of the most endearing was his unique ability to tell a story that enthralled all who were listening. He was an amateur chef who made award winning chili, candy man who’s peanut brittle and fudge was known all around town, and lover of animals. Pops had a great sense of humor and loved getting together with family and friends, and nothing pleased him more than meeting someone new who had not yet heard his stories.
Mac was employed by the City of Edmonton initially with the transit system but soon applied to join the fire department where he successfully completed his training, honed his culinary skills and stayed for 25 years. He retired in 1982 at the age of 52 and became a gentleman farmer, residing in Glenevis, Alberta for 11 years. In 1991 Ross and Jean returned to Edmonton for their 2nd retirement, and have lived here since involving themselves with the Firefighter and City of Edmonton retirees, their community and of course their family.
Mac/Dad/Pops/Grampa will be greatly missed.
He leaves to mourn his loss - Jean, his wife of 57 years, son Rob, daughter Carol (Ray Vallee), five grandchildren, Jenn (Andy), Heather (Derek), Andy (Nicky), Shawn and Kathryn, great grandson Zain, and his mother in law, Anne Morley. Ross was predeceased by his parent's Walter and Mary McDonald, his son's David and Tom, his sister Christine (Buddy) and brother, Tom.
