It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Pidwerbeski, aged 84, of Edmonton, Alberta, on December 7, 2024. Walter was born in the Hafford, Saskatchewan District on November 28, 1940, to Nick and Anne Pidwerbeski (née Rawlyk).
Walter is predeceased by his wife, Gloria (née Chopiuk); his brother, Orest; and other cherished family members. He will be dearly missed by his children, Deanna (Michael Kearns), David (Kim Morrison), Deborah (Gary Windjack), and Denita (Troyan Mason); as well as his grandchildren, Logan, Brooklyn, Ainsley, Benjamin, Ella, Olivia, Jonah, Max, Owen, and Anna.
A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Wally, as his friends called him, built a successful career in business. He worked with Federated Co-Op and Laidlaw, where he was known for his exceptional skills as a salesman. Wally was also a passionate investor and entrepreneur; investing in properties, hotels, and retail businesses.
In his youth, Wally was a gifted athlete, playing hockey and baseball; including for the Speers Aces and the North Battleford Junior Beavers. He was an enthusiastic coach for his kids’ softball teams, and was happy to treat the teams to ice-cream after a game.
Wally was a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree), and took great pride in his Ukrainian heritage. He was a dedicated patron of the Ukrainian Village in Edmonton, and enjoyed the cultural traditions and food that connected him to his roots. Wally was known in the family for his sweet tooth and was always ready with a treat. He also loved going to the horse races with his children and grandchildren. Those who knew him best will remember his sense of humour, quick wit, and love of laughter right until the end.
Wally will be missed, but never forgotten.
